Chemicals can be transported safely and securely in certain controlled conditions but can also unleash its hazardous properties on people, process or property in other situations. These products can react with the environment or with other chemicals to propagate its hazardous properties, resulting in major losses to People, Property or Environment. Through interpretation of key important concepts and adequate knowledge, most chemicals can be predictable in their behaviour during transport and can be managed by applying proper guidelines within each supply chain node. This course will allow the participant to have a better understanding of chemicals and provide the basic know-how to manage them safely and in compliance, thus gaining a overview on the fundamentals of Chemical Logistics Management. LecturerHerman Ng has gained significant years of experience managing bulk and packaged Dangerous Goods across the chemical supply chain. Upon graduating with a B.Sc in Chemistry and M.Sc in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology, Herman has worked as a port chemist in PSA Corporation Ltd managing all aspects of dangerous goods, including yards and chemical warehouses. He has also performed the function of the compliance manager in an American multinational company, thus understanding the operational aspect and legal requirements of importing, exporting, storing and transporting Dangerous Goods via sea and air. To gain the maritime and terminal perspective of shipping dangerous goods, Herman has worked as a maritime safety consultant for a ship classification society and a superintendent in a marine terminal handling bulk liquid cargoes.
