Transforming Logistics Operations & Jobs using Robotics Process Automation

A total of 16 SLA members benefitted from 2 Robotic Process Automation (RPA) online workshops in July 2020.

Sponsored by Workforce Singapore and in collaboration with Singapore National Employers Federation and Singapore Polytechnic, the 2-day online programme is part of SLA’s continuous effort to encourage member-companies to transform its logistics operations.

The workshop demonstrated how businesses could redesign job roles and automate some of the internal processes to bring about an improvement in productivity and assist employees to move up the work value chain. Through adopting the RPA, it allows employees to configure software or a “robot” to capture and interpret existing applications for processing a data transaction, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems.

Through the workshop, members were more aware of industry transformation or lean enterprise development initiatives. They also bring home useful ready skills to implement RPA in their work place. Areas of intended implementation include freight forwarding processes, collation of shipment documents for billing, extracting sailing schedules via PortNet, customer service, e-invoicing and e-quotations as well as financial reports.

Participants find the workshop very useful as it builds greater awareness on RPA and how it could solve their operational problems through streamlining day-to-day manual work processes.
