Supply Chain Challenge 2021 ++

SLA together with Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)  launch its 9th season of the SCC++ with its participating partner – Geoworks on 27 April 2021. This is an annual competition for students from Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and the Institute for Technical Education.

This year’s launch is slightly different from the past as it made a strong comeback after taking a pause last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.  It was stream live and an audience of about 230 accessed through their laptops and mobile devices concurrently to support the launch. Competing on a relevant theme, “Reimaging Supply Chain Resilience Through Digitalisation,” 5 SLA member-companies, namely CK Shipping Pte Ltd,  Germaxco Shipping Agencies Pte Ltd, Global Airfreight International Pte Ltd, Jacobson Global Logistics (Singapore) Pte Ltd and  Masindo Logistic Pte Ltd are all geared up for the challenge.

In his welcome address, Prof Cheong Hee Kiat - SUSS President said, “During COVID-19, numerous supply chains were crippled because of their outdated systems – many organisations were using deliveries which required face-to-face, paper-based signatures. Digitalisation can help to upgrade and streamline organisation’s processes, and eliminate the need for face-to-face interaction. By leveraging digitalisation as a key enabler in improving supply chain resiliency, organisations can recover quickly from a supply chain disruption and return to normalcy; they can even grow faster than before. But, note the critical importance of another key - developing staff for new technological innovations and encouraging them to acquire new skills.”

Prof Cheong strongly urged students to, “Always be ready to update your skills as the world changes. Embrace lifelong learning and make yourself valuable for the companies. Take this challenge as a learning opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills to prepare for the new normal ahead.” He also exhorted that as Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survive nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change”.

Big thanks to sponsoring companies namely Keppel Logistics Pte Ltd and BYD  for supporting this exciting event! Look out for the Champion Team when the finalist teams make their presentations at the SCC++ Finals on 23 July 2021!
