Supply Chain Challenge (SCC++) 2022 Launch: Celebrating 10 Years

SCC++ celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and the 2022 challenge was launched virtually on 28th April 2022 with the theme “Building Sustainable Supply Chains through ESG Initiatives”. The successful and well received launch was graced by Mr Dave Ng, SLA’s Chairman, and Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

250 guests and students from the logistics industry, academia, and five polytechnics and ITE were present at the virtual platform to witness the celebration of the SCC++ 10th anniversary that has over the years served its purposeful mission to bridge young talents with experienced industry mentor companies. The Challenge offers Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) students meaningful real-world experiences and an opportunity to co-create solutions that can make an impact to the logistics sector.

For the first time, SCC++ 2022’s theme will focus on helping the industry build sustainable supply chains through environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives that eventually helps to lower the ecological footprint of the sector’s operations and activities, such as CO2 emissions, noise pollution, and accidents. This gives students the learning opportunity on the latest trends in logistics sustainability, while being able to co-create practical and innovative solutions with the three 2022 SLA mentor companies.

During the launch, the guests and students were brought back to Year 2008, a significant year as both SLA and SUSS had signed a partnership agreement then to groom a next-generation of talents with innovative skills a deep industry knowledge to thrive and contribute to the logistics sector. In 2012, we launched the first SCC++ event, and as we fast forward to today, over 2460 students across 700 teams, and 48 mentor companies, had already participated in SCC++ in the last 10 years.

The guests and students present were briefed by Mr Tan Eng Soon, SCC++ LEAD Co-ordinator on the Theme, Rules and Regulations of the challenge, while Associate Professor Tan Yan Weng Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme, School of Business, SUSS shared the Conditional Offer from the university.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the business cases by the mentor companies which were presented respectively by:

  • Germaxco Shipping Agencies Pte Ltd – Mr Joseph Ow, Sales Director
  • Global Airfreight International Pte Ltd – Mr Goh Wee Yaw, Chief Operating Officer
  • SFS Global Logistics Pte Ltd – Mr Roger Chew, Managing Director

We would like to take this chance to once again thank our main sponsor, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), for partnering in this good cause of grooming young talents. As the race goes on for the students, the SCC++ team is preparing for the physical come back of the SCC++ Finals on 27 July 2022, which has halted for the past two years due to COVID-19. We are looking to hold the Finals at the SUSS Performing Arts Theatre, so do stay tuned for more information!
