Project Showcase - Jurong Port Pte Ltd: Semi Automation Cement Unloader Cabin (Gold Award)
On 23 September 2020, the SLA team was warmly welcomed by Team Frontier Explorer at their premise.
Jurong Port (JP) is home to the world’s largest common user cement terminal, handling close to 90% of cement demand for Singapore. As JP strives towards becoming a Next Generation Multipurpose Port, innovation and smart adoption of pioneering technology has become integral to the company’s transformation. Semi-automation of the cement unloader at JP is one such testimony to this. By developing algorithms to enable automatic operation of the unloader, aided by deployment of sensors and cameras, JP eliminated the need for an operator’s physical presence on the vessel deck, which is a challenging work environment. With the introduction of semi-automation and remote operation from an air-conditioned cabin, JP has significantly improved the safety and health of operators and at the same time, reduced the dependency on manpower for effective redeployment.
The team also won the National WSH Innovation Award. Nominated by SLA, the project came in top amongst all the project teams that participated in the WSH Innovation Awards for Logistics & Transport Sector 2020.
